A Kakuro Haven grid in progress with sum clues, pencil marks and a digit pad

Kakuro Haven is a kakuro (cross sums) app for iPhone, iPad and Android with more than 2,000 free puzzles and one daily puzzle that is the same for everyone. The dailies are their own puzzles, so a fresh one waits even after the whole library is done.

About Kakuro Haven

Kakuro is the number crossword. Each run of white squares has a clue at its head, and the digits in the run must add up to that clue without repeating. Kakuro Haven checks every grid before it ships: one solution, reachable by logic alone, with no point where you have to try a digit and see.

Every morning brings a new daily puzzle, the same for everyone on that date, and a streak to keep. The daily puzzles are made for the daily alone and appear in no other tier. Next to the daily sits a library of over 2,000 puzzles in six sizes, from a 3x3 Mini to a 30x30 Colossal, with nothing locked and no limit on how many you solve.

The tools aim to teach rather than solve. You get pencil marks in five colours, a separate notes mode, auto-filled candidates that respect digits you ruled out, a row showing every way the current clue can be made, and hints that explain the deduction and leave the move to you. On iPad you can write digits by hand with Apple Pencil or a finger, and the recognition runs on the device.

Kakuro Haven is made by Lobster Claw Software LLC and came out in August 2026. It is free and works offline with no account. Ads appear only between puzzles and on the menus, never while a puzzle is open, and a single optional purchase removes them; there is no subscription.

Tips

  • Learn the fixed combinations: 3 in two squares is always 1 and 2, and 17 in two squares is always 8 and 9.
  • Where an across run and a down run share a square, the digit must fit both lists of combinations.
  • Start with short runs and extreme clues; they have the fewest ways to be made.
  • Use a second pencil-mark colour to follow a line of reasoning you are not yet sure of.
