GeoTracer sheet 17: an unlabelled 3D globe of South America with the Draw, Move, Erase and Submit border controls

GeoTracer names a country and gives you a satellite-style 3D globe with no borders or labels on it. You draw the country's outline from memory, submit it, and get a score out of 100. The day's average and number of plays are shown at the top.

About GeoTracer

GeoTracer is a free daily geography game. Each day's sheet carries a number and a subject, a single country (sometimes limited, as in Venezuela mainland), and opens on a 3D globe showing land, sea and terrain but no borders and no names.

You switch between drawing and moving the globe, trace the country's border where you think it runs, and erase, undo or clear as you go. A re-centre button brings the globe back to its start. When you are happy, you submit the border and the game scores how closely your shape matches the real one, out of 100.

The puzzle resets at 00:00 UTC and is the same for everyone. The top bar shows how many people have played that day and their average score, so you can see whether the day's country was hard for everyone or only for you. There is no signup.

It suits players who know roughly where a country is but want to test whether they know its actual shape, coastlines and mountain borders included.

How to play GeoTracer

  1. Open GeoTracer and read the day's subject at the top of the screen.
  2. Use Move to turn the globe to the right part of the world.
  3. Switch to Draw and trace the country's border from memory.
  4. Use Erase, Undo or Clear board to fix mistakes.
  5. Press Submit border to get your score out of 100 and compare it with the day's average.

Tips

  • Use rivers, mountain ranges and coastlines on the globe as guides for where borders run.
  • Start with the coast, which you can see, then close the shape across the land borders.
  • Rotate the globe so the country faces you before drawing, to avoid squashed shapes near the edge.
