Four Groups (Clue Morning)
Rate itSort sixteen words into four hidden groups of four before your fourth mistake.
Every day: One board of sixteen words a day, the same for everyone, to sort into four hidden groups of four with four mistakes allowed; each day's set carries an overall difficulty (Hard on 7 Oct 2026). It is the second of Clue Morning's seven daily games. New puzzle: Midnight Pacific time (America/Los_Angeles).

Four Groups is the Connections-style puzzle in Clue Morning's daily set. Each day everyone gets the same sixteen words, and you pick out four sets of four that share a link, while decoys fit more than one idea. Four mistakes end the board, and each solved group shows its difficulty.
About Four Groups (Clue Morning)
Four Groups is the second of seven daily games on Clue Morning, a small free site whose daily set also includes Letter Grid, Letter Trail, Triple Link, Word Steps, Deep Cut and Last Call. It plays like NYT Connections: sixteen words on the board, four hidden groups of four.
A group might be a plain category, words that complete the same phrase, or words that share some hidden feature. The trouble is overlap: on 7 Oct 2026 the board held SOIL, SHOVEL, LEAF and WEEDS beside FISH, HAND, CARD and SOUND, so several words seemed to fit more than one idea. You select four tiles and submit them; a right answer locks the group in and names its link, and a wrong one costs one of four mistakes.
The page is dressed as a detective's case file, with the words pinned to a corkboard as evidence. Solved groups get a difficulty colour and label, and the finished board reports the day's overall set difficulty. A clock runs while you play, and the game keeps your score and your best result.
The board changes at midnight Pacific time with the rest of the daily set, and answers are checked on Clue Morning's server. Your result feeds the Morning Run total across the seven games, with a streak, an archive and a daily leaderboard. The daily set is free in the browser with no account; a paid Unlimited pass adds a reserve library of extra boards that never touch the daily score.
How to play Four Groups (Clue Morning)
- Open Four Groups on Clue Morning and read all sixteen words on the corkboard.
- Tap four words you think share one connection, then press Submit Group.
- A correct set locks into place and shows its link and difficulty colour.
- A wrong set costs one of your four mistakes; Clear lets you start a selection again.
- Find all four groups before the fourth mistake, or the remaining answers are revealed.
Tips
- Start with the link you can name most exactly; a narrow category is safer than a loose one like things found outside.
- Count candidates: if five words fit one idea, one of them belongs elsewhere, so find its other home first.
- Try reading each word as the start or end of a phrase, since phrase groups hide well among plain categories.
- Once one group is solved, look again at what is left; the last twelve or eight words are much easier to read.
