Eureka title card: guess the inventor or scientist in 8 tries

Eureka is a daily guessing game about the history of invention and science. You have eight tries to name the hidden person, and each guess is checked against them on field, birth year, nationality, Nobel status, inventor or scientist, and gender. Every guess also unlocks a line about what the person is known for.

About Eureka

Eureka hides one historical inventor or scientist each day and gives you eight guesses to find them. Type a name, and the game compares that person with the answer on six traits: their field, birth year, nationality, whether they won a Nobel Prize, whether they were an inventor or a scientist, and their gender. The coloured feedback tells you which traits match and whether the answer was born earlier or later.

Each guess also reveals one more line about what the hidden person is known for, so the puzzle gets easier as it goes. The pool runs to a few hundred figures, from antiquity to today, with short bios and portraits drawn from Wikipedia. Puzzles are numbered and dated, and everyone plays the same one.

The about page says Eureka is a solo project with no company, no investors and no ads. It is free and needs no account; your streak and stats stay in your browser. It suits players who like Wordle-style attribute games and know their science history.

How to play Eureka

  1. Open the site to load the day's numbered puzzle.
  2. Type the name of an inventor or scientist as your first guess.
  3. Read the feedback on field, birth year, nationality, Nobel status, inventor or scientist, and gender.
  4. Use the matches and the newly unlocked clue to pick a closer next guess.
  5. Name the person within eight guesses to solve the day and keep your streak.

Tips

  • Start with a well known figure from a busy field and era to narrow two traits at once.
  • The birth year arrow halves your search: use it to jump across centuries early.
  • Read each unlocked clue closely; it often names the person's main invention or discovery area.
  • Nobel status splits the pool quickly for anyone born after the late 1800s.
