Elided home for Friday, October 2: Skip letters. Find the words, with today's Longest puzzle card and practice button

Elided is a daily word puzzle in three rounds. Each round lays out sixteen letters, and you spell words by tapping letters from left to right, skipping as many as you like. Your goal is the single longest word, and every other word you try marks its tiles as in or out of the answer, so you close in over four guesses.

About Elided

Elided, made by AJ Perez, gives you three rounds of sixteen letter tiles each day. You build a word by tapping tiles in left-to-right order; the letters do not have to be next to each other. Any dictionary word of four letters or more counts as a guess. If it is the round's longest word, you have solved it. If not, each tile you used gets a tick if it belongs to the longest word or a cross if it does not, and the marks stay on the board for your next try.

You have four guesses per round, and refused or repeated words cost nothing. Solving on the first guess earns three stars, the second two, and the third or fourth one; the day's rating is the average of the three rounds. You get one ranked attempt at each date, which starts with your first submission and saves as you go. After you finish, the game shows the answers and how many other words each round held.

The daily rounds come from the date's fixed seed, the same on every device. Past days stay playable in the archive with hints, and a practice mode builds fresh rounds whenever you like. Sharing is spoiler-free. It suits word game players who enjoy subsequence hunting and a bit of deduction.

Tips

  • Use your first guess on a long word that uses many different tiles; the marks tell you more.
  • Crosses rule tiles out completely, so build later guesses around ticked tiles.
