Cube Clear
Clear a 36-letter cube of tiles in as few words as you can.
Every day: One new 6 by 6 grid of 36 letters a day on Puzzmo, the same for every player: spell words to clear the whole board in as few words as you can. New puzzle: Midnight US Central Time.
Cube Clear is a daily word puzzle on Puzzmo built from SpellTower. A 6 by 6 grid of letters clears as you spell words through it, tiles fall to fill the gaps, and the score depends on how few words you need to empty the board. It sits in Puzzmo's experimental slot, which is part of Puzzmo Plus.
About Cube Clear
Cube Clear takes the clearing idea from SpellTower, Zach Gage's word search game, and shrinks it to a 6 by 6 grid of 36 letters. Puzzmo's credits list Gage for its design and Jack Schlesinger for the puzzles. It has run on Puzzmo since 2023; in early 2024 a Hearst guide described it as Puzzmo's newest game, still experimental and for paying members only, and it is still marked as experimental on the daily page.
You spell words by dragging through touching letters, and the letters you use disappear. Longer words also clear the tiles next to them, and the remaining tiles tumble down to fill the holes. Instead of chasing high-scoring words, you try to clear every tile in as few words as possible; each day's grid can be cleared in as few as three.
Because the board is small, the order of words matters a great deal: one long word in the wrong place can leave a few scattered letters that cannot be joined. Some players set themselves the extra challenge of clearing the board with only three-letter words.
It suits SpellTower players who want a shorter, tighter puzzle, and anyone who likes planning several moves ahead.
How to play Cube Clear
- Open Puzzmo's daily page; Cube Clear is in the experimental slot for Puzzmo Plus members.
- Look at the 6 by 6 grid of letters.
- Drag through touching letters to spell a word; those letters disappear.
- Watch the remaining tiles fall and plan your next word around the new shape.
- Clear every tile in as few words as you can.
Tips
- Look for one long word through the middle that clears neighbours on both sides.
- Check what will fall into place before you submit; a word lower down can join letters above it.
- Leave yourself a vowel near every consonant cluster so the last tiles can still form a word.
- If a corner looks awkward, clear it early while it still has neighbours.
Questions
Is Cube Clear free?
No. Cube Clear sits in Puzzmo's experimental slot, which needs Puzzmo Plus. Puzzmo Plus costs $39.99 a year on puzzmo.com, with a seven-day free trial, or $3.99 a month or $39.99 a year through the iPhone app. It opens the archive of past puzzles and adds bonus puzzles. Puzzmo's other daily games such as SpellTower are free.
What time does the new Cube Clear come out?
Puzzmo's day turns over at midnight US Central Time, when the whole daily page, this game included, switches to the next date. Everyone gets the same puzzle for that date.
How is Cube Clear different from SpellTower?
The grid is smaller, 36 letters, and the goal is to clear it in as few words as possible rather than to score the most points.
Can I play Cube Clear on my phone?
Yes. It runs in any web browser at puzzmo.com, and Puzzmo has an app for iPhone and iPad. Your streak and scores carry across if you log in.
