Douze puzzle #107 after one guess: an Austrian 1976 entry with its country, year, language and result clues, and five guesses left

Douze is a free daily Eurovision guessing game. Each day one entry from the contest's whole history, 1956 to today, is the answer, and you have six guesses to find it. Every guess you make shows how close its country, year, language and final result are to the mystery song.

About Douze

Douze is a fan-made daily quiz about the Eurovision Song Contest, named after the twelve points juries give their favourite song. Every day at midnight UTC it picks one mystery entry from all the contests since 1956, and every player gets the same one. The puzzle is numbered, so you can compare a given day with other fans.

You play by searching for any Eurovision entry by song title or artist and submitting it as a guess. Each guess opens a row of four clues. Country is marked exact, from the same region, or neither. Year is exact, within five years, or further, with an arrow pointing earlier or later. Language is a match, a partial overlap or no overlap. Result places the entry as a winner, top five, top ten, another finalist, or a song that did not qualify, again with an arrow. Green marks an exact clue, orange a close one and grey a miss.

If you get stuck you can reveal the day's hint, which gives the decade of the mystery entry. When the game ends you can share an emoji grid of your path to the answer that does not give the answer away. Stats and a streak are kept in your own browser, with no account or sign-up.

Douze is an independent fan project and says plainly that it is not affiliated with the EBU or the Eurovision Song Contest. It suits fans who know their contest history, and it rewards knowing which countries sang in which language and how they placed, as well as the songs themselves.

How to play Douze

  1. Open playdouze.com; the day's numbered puzzle is ready with six empty guess rows.
  2. Type a song title or an artist into the search box and pick a Eurovision entry from the list.
  3. Read the four clues on your guess: country, year, language and result, each green for exact, orange for close or grey for off.
  4. Follow the arrows on year and result to tell whether the mystery entry is earlier or later, and placed higher or lower.
  5. Reveal the day's hint if you need it to learn the decade of the entry.
  6. Name the entry within six guesses, then share your emoji grid.

Tips

  • Open with a song from the middle years of the contest, so the year arrow cuts the range in half.
  • A same-region country clue narrows the field a lot: think of the neighbours that sent songs in that era.
  • Use the language clue: a partial overlap often points to a song sung in a mix of English and a national language.
  • Keep the hint for last; the decade is most useful once country and result are narrowed.
