Guess the day's character from the Cosmere, Dune, Middle-earth or Star Wars in six tries.

Every day: Six separate daily puzzles, one per world (Cosmere, Stormlight Archive, Mistborn, Dune, Middle-earth, Star Wars): each has one hidden character a day, the same for every player, numbered in order. New puzzle: Midnight, as the game's help says; it does not name a time zone.

A cosmere.dle board with two guesses, Vin and Kaladin, scored in green, yellow and grey tiles for World, Species, Investiture, Appears in and First appearance

dle.quest is a fan-made hub of six daily character-guessing games, one for each of the Cosmere, the Stormlight Archive, Mistborn, Dune, Middle-earth and Star Wars. In each one you have six guesses to find the day's hidden character, and every guess is scored on five clues such as homeworld, species or first appearance.

About dle.quest

dle.quest gathers six small guessing games under one address, each on its own subdomain: cosmere.dle, roshar.dle (the Stormlight Archive), scadrial.dle (Mistborn), dune.dle, middleearth.dle and starwars.dle. Each one hides a single character a day from its world, the same one for everyone, and gives you six guesses to find it. The front page lists how many characters each pool holds, from about 60 for Dune to 100 for Star Wars.

You guess by typing a name and choosing it from the list. The game lays your guess out in a row of five clue tiles and compares each with the answer: green for an exact match, yellow for a partial overlap, grey for no match. The first appearance tile also shows an arrow when the answer comes from a later or earlier book or film. The clues change with the world: the Cosmere game scores World, Species, Investiture, Appears in and First appearance, Dune scores Allegiance, Homeworld, Training or nature, Gender and First appearance, Star Wars asks about Species, Homeworld, Affiliation and whether the character is Force-sensitive, and Middle-earth looks at Race, Home, Allegiance and birth.

The page shows yesterday's answer under the board, so a miss is cleared up the next day. Statistics (games played, win rate, current and longest streak, and a guess distribution) are kept in your browser only, and there is no account to make. The games carry no ads that we saw.

It suits readers of Brandon Sanderson and Frank Herbert and fans of Tolkien and Star Wars who want a short daily test of how well they know a cast. The site says it is a fan project and is not affiliated with the rights holders.

How to play dle.quest

  1. Open dle.quest and press Play on the world you want, or go straight to its subdomain such as cosmere.dle.quest.
  2. Start typing a character's name in the box and pick it from the list, then press Guess.
  3. Read the five clue tiles: green is an exact match, yellow a partial overlap, grey no match.
  4. On the first appearance tile, an up arrow means the answer appears later than your guess and a down arrow means earlier.
  5. Use the clues to narrow the field and find the character within six guesses.
  6. Come back after midnight for a new character in each of the six worlds.

Tips

  • Open with a character whose home and species are common in that world, so a grey tile rules out a large group at once.
  • In the Cosmere game, Worldhoppers count for the world they came from, not the one they are visiting, as the help explains.
  • Yellow on Investiture means you share a magic system but not the exact speciality, so stay within that order or Allomancy type.
  • Each world keeps its own streak, so play the ones you know best every day to keep them going.
