DailyMetro London in Classic mode after a first guess, Blackhorse Road, with its lines, direction, letters and zone clues coloured

DailyMetro is a free browser game about metro networks. Choose one of 22 cities, guess any station, and each guess tells you which lines it shares with the hidden one, which way to go and how far. A new station hides in every city at local midnight, with Classic, Map and Photo modes.

About DailyMetro

DailyMetro hides one station a day on a real metro network and asks you to find it. Its home page is a city picker: Paris, New York, London, San Francisco, Istanbul, Berlin, Madrid, Marseille, Lyon, Lille, Montpellier, Barcelona, Chicago, Washington, Singapore, Mexico City, Montreal, Seoul, Toulouse, Rennes, São Paulo and Brussels, each with its own station of the day and its own day count. Everyone playing the same city on the same day gets the same answer.

In Classic mode you type a station and get a row of clues back: whether it shares the target's lines, an arrow pointing toward the target, whether the name has more or fewer letters, and whether it is in the same zone or area. Each clue turns green, orange or red. You have eight guesses, and at the fourth the game shows you the line. Map mode hides the same station but has you place guesses on a map that reveals the city limits, then the lines and streets, as you miss, with seven tries. Photo mode shows a station entrance with its name blurred out.

A first visit asks you to choose a level of help. Normal gives lines, direction, letters and zone with hints, while Connaisseur swaps in ridership and the origin of the station's name and drops the hints. When you find the station you get an emoji grid to share, and a counter keeps your streak. Past days can be replayed from the archive.

The game started as a Paris version made in one day for a friend who knew every station by heart, and grew to more cities after a post about it brought in thousands of players. It is free, needs no account or download, and plays in English and French. It suits commuters, transit fans and anyone who likes map and geography guessing games.

How to play DailyMetro

  1. Open DailyMetro and pick a city from the list.
  2. Choose a level of help: Normal with hints, or Connaisseur without them.
  3. In Classic mode, type the name of any station on that city's network and submit it.
  4. Read the clues in the row that comes back: shared lines, the arrow toward the target, more or fewer letters, and the zone.
  5. Follow the arrow and the colours to your next guess until you land on the station of the day, within eight tries.
  6. Try Map or Photo mode for the same city, then share your emoji grid.

Tips

  • Open with a busy interchange station: it shares lines with more of the network, so the lines clue tells you more.
  • Use the direction arrow and the distance together to rule out whole branches of a line before guessing again.
  • The letters clue says whether the answer's name is longer or shorter, which narrows the last few candidates quickly.
