Conundrum is the Irish Independent's daily anagram game, free in the browser on independent.ie. You get three rounds of scrambled letters, 7, 8 and 9 of them, and must find the single word that uses them all before the clock runs out, then receive a grade for the day.
About Conundrum (Irish Independent)
Conundrum is a daily anagram puzzle from the Irish Independent, on the puzzles section of independent.ie. Each day has three games. In the first you are given 7 letters and 30 seconds, in the second 8 letters and 40 seconds, and in the third 9 letters and 50 seconds. In each round the job is to arrange all of the letters into one word.
The board shows a ring timer counting down, a row of empty guess tiles and the scrambled letters below them; you press the letters in order to fill the guess and can clear it to start again. A Hint button is there if you are stuck, but using it costs you on your grade.
After the three rounds the game gives you a grade for the day. The statistics page shows today's games, wins, hints used and grade, and overall figures for days played, games, wins, hints and an overall grade with your current streak, and a Share button lets you pass on the result.
How to play Conundrum (Irish Independent)
- Open Conundrum on independent.ie and press Play; the 30-second timer for the 7-letter round starts.
- Press the scrambled letters in the order you think spells the word; they fill the Your Guess row.
- Press Clear to start the word again, or Hint if you are stuck, at a cost to your grade.
- Solve the 8-letter round in 40 seconds and the 9-letter round in 50 seconds.
- See your grade for the day on the statistics page and share it.
Tips
- Look for common endings and beginnings first, such as -ING, -ER, -ED or RE-, and set them aside.
- Read the letters as pairs that often go together (TH, SH, CH) to cut down the options.
- Save the Hint button for the 9-letter round, where it matters most and time is longest.
