Anon board on mindloftdaily.com: an empty 109-letter passage on the left and the answer bank on the right, with a Greek letter category highlighted

Anon is a free daily word puzzle from Mind Loft, an acrostic with the clues taken away. Every square of an unsigned passage belongs to one answer in a bank beside it, so each letter you type fills both at once, and when you finish, the first letters of the answers spell the author's name.

About Anon (Mind Loft)

Anon is Mind Loft's take on the acrostic. On the left is a quotation of around a hundred letters with only its word breaks and punctuation showing; on the right is a bank of answers whose letters are the same letters, shuffled. Every box in the passage belongs to exactly one answer, so a letter typed in either half appears in the other straight away.

There are no clues in the usual sense. Some answers carry a short category you can work through in your head, such as a Greek letter or a planet of a given length; about half carry no category at all and have to come from the passage reading as English. Mind Loft's own advice is to start with the sharpest category rather than the passage, because a few placed letters make the sentence start to show.

There are no checks and no hints: a wrong answer simply stops the passage from making sense. When the bank is complete, the first letters of the answers, read down the spine, name whoever wrote the passage, which is where the game gets its name. Two players who both finish are separated by the clock.

How to play Anon (Mind Loft)

  1. Open Anon and press Start to show the passage and the answer bank.
  2. Pick an answer with a category you can solve, such as a Greek letter of six letters, and type it in.
  3. Watch its letters land in the passage and use the partly filled words to guess more of the sentence.
  4. Type letters into the passage too; they fill the matching answers in the bank.
  5. Finish every answer; the first letters of the spine spell the passage's author.

Tips

  • Solve the categorised answers first, since each one drops several letters into the passage at once.
  • Short words in the passage, like THE or AND, are easy to read once one letter is in place.
  • Use the author's initials on the spine as a check once a few first letters appear.
