Lex.Games Cryptograms
Decode an encrypted quote, one letter at a time, in a numbered daily cryptogram.
Every day: One numbered, dated cryptogram a day by Lex Friedman (for example Cryptogram #376 on 2 October 2026), the same for everyone, with its own leaderboard. New puzzle: Once a day; each puzzle is numbered and dated, and the site does not state the time.

Cryptogram is one of the daily word games at Lex.Games: a quote written in a letter-substitution cipher that you crack letter by letter. Each day's puzzle is numbered and has its own leaderboard. You need to log in to play, and even-numbered cryptograms are only for premium subscribers.
About Lex.Games Cryptograms
Lex.Games is a set of daily word games made by Lex Friedman, playable on the web and in an iPhone and iPad app. Cryptogram is the site's daily code puzzle: a quote in which every letter has been swapped for another, which you decode one letter at a time.
Each day brings a new numbered cryptogram with the date and author line on the page, a running timer and a link to that puzzle's leaderboard, so everyone is solving the same quote. Under each cipher letter the game shows how often it appears, and you can turn on mistake highlighting or reveal a letter when you are stuck. Past puzzles are in an archive.
To play on the web you must log in or create an account. The site says even-numbered cryptograms are only available to premium Lex.Games subscribers, so free players get every other day.
It suits people who enjoy quote puzzles from newspaper puzzle pages and want one to solve against the clock each day.
How to play Lex.Games Cryptograms
- Open lex.games/cryptograms or the Lex.Games app and log in.
- Pick a cipher letter in the quote and type the letter you think it stands for; it fills in everywhere that letter appears.
- Use short words, apostrophes and letter counts to work out more letters.
- Finish the quote, then compare your time on that day's leaderboard.
Tips
- Single-letter words are almost always A or I.
- The small count under each cipher letter shows how common it is; the most frequent is often E, T or A.
- Highlight Mistakes and Reveal Letter help when stuck, though you may prefer to solve without them.
