WRDAIL

A WRDAIL example: a cartoon cricket by a washing machine and the solved prompt a cricket dreaming in a laundry

WRDAIL shows a picture made by an image generator and asks you to find the three words of the prompt that produced it. Each word has five to eight letters, and you have six guesses, with green and yellow letters as in Wordle. A new puzzle comes out every day, with an archive of earlier ones.

About WRDAIL

WRDAIL combines a picture puzzle with Wordle. Each day there is one image, made from a short prompt such as a cricket dreaming in a laundry, and three of the prompt's words are hidden. Your job is to work them out from what you see in the picture.

Each hidden word is five to eight letters long. You have six guesses to solve all three, and you can guess any valid English word to reveal letters. Letters turn green when they are right and in the right spot, and yellow when they are in a word but somewhere else, so even a wrong guess narrows things down. The picture is your main clue: the subject, the setting and what is happening are usually the words you need.

Puzzles are dated by New York time, starting at the end of January 2026, and an archive calendar lets you play days you missed. It suits players who like Wordle but want a visual clue to start from, and anyone who enjoys describing a picture in as few words as possible.

How to play WRDAIL

  1. Look at the day's picture and think about how you would describe it in a few words.
  2. Type a guess for one of the hidden words, five to eight letters long.
  3. Read the colours: green is the right letter in the right place, yellow is in the word but elsewhere.
  4. Use any valid English word to test letters if you are unsure.
  5. Solve all three words within six guesses, or open the archive for more.

Tips

  • Start with the main subject of the picture; it is usually one of the words.
  • Think about verbs and settings too: what is happening, and where.
  • Use a test word with common letters to reveal parts of several words at once.
