A Word Salad daily puzzle on the theme US States, with OHIO traced through a 4x4 grid of letters

Word Salad is a daily themed word search from Bleppo. Each day's grid hides a set of words on one theme, from US states to pizza toppings, and every word you swipe out drops off the board so the letters left behind fall into new lines. It is free in the browser and on iPhone and Android.

About Word Salad

Word Salad is made by Bleppo, a small studio run by two childhood friends, Samuel and Mark, who also make Number Salad. It came to the App Store in March 2024 and is also on Google Play and in the browser. Every puzzle is written and edited by people rather than generated, and each one carries the name of the writer who made it.

A day's puzzle is a small grid of letters with a theme at the top, such as mammals, gemstones or European cities, and a row of bubbles that show how many words you need and how long each is. You swipe across neighbouring letters to spell a word. When it is right, its letters disappear and the tiles above drop down, so the grid changes shape and new words line up as you clear it. A timer runs while you play.

The daily grid is the same for everyone, and the game is built around comparing times with friends and sharing the day's result. If you get stuck, a hint system nudges you without giving the word away. Beyond the daily there are thousands of older puzzles and packs of extreme puzzles that bend the rules.

It suits players who like Strands and other themed word searches, and who enjoy a puzzle where a bit of general knowledge about the theme helps.

How to play Word Salad

  1. Read the day's theme and look at the bubbles below the grid for how many words there are and their lengths.
  2. Swipe across neighbouring letters to spell a word that fits the theme.
  3. A correct word drops out of the grid and the letters above fall into its place.
  4. Keep finding words as the grid shrinks until every letter is used.
  5. Ask for a hint if you are stuck, then share your time with friends.

Tips

  • Start with the longest word: removing it moves the most letters and makes the rest easier to see.
  • Think about the theme before you look: listing likely answers in your head helps you spot them.
  • Watch which letters will fall where before you clear a word, since the order you find words in changes the grid.
  • Use the word lengths in the bubbles to rule out answers that do not fit.
