Word Row is a daily guessing game on the Hindustan Times games page. The answer is a name or title made of several words, and you crack it word by word using green, yellow and grey letter clues.

About Word Row (Hindustan Times)

Word Row is one of the daily games on the Hindustan Times HT Games page, next to Mini Crossword, Word Flower and Superbrain Teasers. The puzzles are credited to Kabir Firaque, and a new one is posted at about 5am India time every day.

Each answer is made of more than one word: the name of a person, animal or place, or the title of a book or film. The puzzle tells you the category at the start, and the archive shows a wide spread, from Bird and Capital city to Dickens character, Cricketer and 007 heroine. The words in the answer are ordinary words, even when the whole answer is a proper name.

You solve the answer one word at a time. You guess the first word, and each letter turns green if it is in the right place, yellow if it is in that word but elsewhere, or grey if it is not in the word at all. Only when the first word is solved do you move on to the second, and so on. The game runs in the PuzzleMe player from Amuse Labs, with an on-screen keyboard.

It suits players who like Wordle but want a bit of general knowledge mixed in: knowing the category often lets you guess the whole answer once one word is in place. Past puzzles stay listed by date if you want to play more.

How to play Word Row (Hindustan Times)

  1. Open the Word Row page and pick today's puzzle (or an earlier one).
  2. Read the category shown at the start, for example Bird or River.
  3. Type a guess for the first word of the answer and press enter.
  4. Use the colours: green is the right letter in the right place, yellow is in the word elsewhere, grey is not in the word.
  5. Once a word is solved, move on to the next word until the whole name or title is found.

Tips

  • Think of answers that fit the category and the word lengths before your first guess.
  • Once the first word is solved, the category usually narrows the rest down to a few options.
  • Start each word with a guess that uses common vowels and consonants to learn the most.
