Guess Word is the Wordle-style game on the games page of CNA, the Singapore news channel. Each day there is one hidden word to find in six tries, with each guess coloured to show which letters are in the word and which are in the right place. It is free in the browser and in the CNA app.
About Guess Word (CNA)
Guess Word sits on CNA Games, the puzzle section of Channel NewsAsia's website, next to its mini crossword, mini sudoku, word search and Buzzword. The game itself runs on PuzzleMe, the puzzle platform from Amuse Labs used by many newspapers, and inside it the game is called WordroW.
A day's puzzle is one hidden word. You type a guess on the board's keyboard and press enter; every letter then shows by its colour whether it is in the word, and whether it is in the right spot. You have six rows to find it. CNA describes the game as guessing 4, 5 and 6 letter words, so the length of the day's word is not always the same: on 6 October 2026 it was five letters.
When you finish, CNA shows your time and a link to the answer and asks you to check back tomorrow. The CNA app for iPhone and Android carries the same games with a winning streak, achievement badges and archived puzzles to catch up on.
It suits anyone who already plays Wordle and wants a second word of the day, with a Singapore paper's puzzles beside it.
How to play Guess Word (CNA)
- Open Guess Word on CNA Games; the day's puzzle loads in the board.
- Count the empty circles in a row: that is the length of the day's word.
- Type a word of that length on the on-screen keyboard and press the enter key.
- Read the colours: they show which letters are in the word and which are already in the right place.
- Use what you learned in your next guess, and find the word within six tries.
Tips
- Open with a word that tests common vowels and consonants, such as five different letters.
- Check the row length before you type: the word is not always five letters.
- Once a letter is placed, keep it there and spend the other spots on letters you have not tried.
