Underline (From The Think)

Complete a chain of linked words and phrases against the clock, one numbered game a day.

Every day: One dated, numbered phrase chain a day, the same for every player. New puzzle: Once a day (each game carries the date and a number).

Underline is the daily word game from From The Think. Each word in the chain joins the next to make a familiar phrase or compound, as UNDER joins LINE, and you race to fill in the whole chain as fast as you can.

About Underline (From The Think)

Underline is the fourth daily game on From The Think, a small site of bite-sized daily games built by two friends, Jack and Grant, who started it in 2026 with Timeline, Headline and Moneyline. Each Underline game is dated and numbered, and everyone plays the same chain on the same day.

The puzzle is a chain of linked words. Each pair of neighbours makes a common phrase or compound word, the way the game's own logo links UNDER to LINE. You are shown part of the chain and have to work out the missing links.

The clock runs while you play, so the aim is not just to finish but to finish quickly, and the result is easy to share with friends who played the same chain.

Like the site's other games it is meant to take a minute or two at the start of the day. It suits players who like word association, compound-word puzzles and a little time pressure.

How to play Underline (From The Think)

  1. Open Underline and press Start Playing for today's game.
  2. Look at the words already in the chain.
  3. Find the word that joins with its neighbour to make a familiar phrase or compound.
  4. Keep filling in links until the chain is complete.
  5. Finish as fast as you can and share your time.

Tips

  • Say the pairs out loud; compound words often jump out when spoken.
  • Think of both directions: a missing word has to fit with the word before it and the one after it.
  • Do not get stuck on one link if the next one is easier to see.
