trms

Three clues, three different answers, one shared set of consonants.

Every day: One puzzle a day, the same for everyone: three clues with different answers that share the same consonants, and you find that consonant string. A bonus round follows, and a Random mode serves extra puzzles. New puzzle: Midnight on your device's clock (the game picks the daily puzzle from your local date).

trms is a small daily word puzzle by ImpliedAmpersand, free in the browser on itch.io. Each day you get three clues whose answers are different words with the same consonants in the same order; the clues themselves are shown without vowels. Find the shared consonants, then try a bonus round where you spell out each clue's full answer.

About trms

trms (say it as terms, with the vowels taken out) is a browser word puzzle by ImpliedAmpersand, made in Godot and published on itch.io, where it was entered in the ThinkyCon Jam 2025 and National Game Design Month 2025. Its own description is short: a game about consonants.

Each puzzle has three clues. Their answers are three different words, but strip out the vowels and they all leave the same letters: out of date, volcanic rock and complete and utter give obsolete, basalt and absolute, which all reduce to bslt. Your goal is to type that consonant string. The catch is that the clues are missing their vowels too, so the first job is reading them. In this game y always counts as a vowel. If you are stuck you can click a clue word to reveal it, see how long the answer is, or peek at the answer's letters; the end screen tells you how many hints you used, and you can copy the result to share.

After the main puzzle a bonus round asks for each clue's full answer, vowels and all, with the consonants as a reminder. Play Daily gives the day's puzzle, chosen from your device's date, and Play Random serves extra ones. A round takes a few minutes, and it suits players who like crossword clues and spotting word patterns more than guessing letters.

How to play trms

  1. Open trms on itch.io and press Play Daily.
  2. Read the three clues, which are shown without their vowels, and work out what each one says.
  3. Think of an answer to each clue: the three answers are different words that share the same consonants in order.
  4. Type the shared consonants, leaving out every vowel, and remember that y counts as a vowel.
  5. If you are stuck, reveal a clue word, show the answer's length or peek at its letters; the end screen counts your hints.
  6. Play the bonus round to spell each clue's full answer, then copy your result or try a random puzzle.

Tips

  • Decode all three clues before guessing; the one with the plainest meaning usually gives the consonants away.
  • You only need one answer you are sure of to get the consonants; check it against the other two clues before typing.
  • Treat y as a vowel: a word like shy leaves only sh.
  • Try the answer's length hint before revealing letters; knowing the count often narrows it enough.
  • Copying results does not work in every browser; if it fails, the hint count is still shown on the end screen.
