About Tracell

Tracell hides a phrase in a set of tiny letter grids. Each tile is a 2 by 2 block of four letters, and the day's board has a set of positions for them, with a couple of tiles left outside. By moving the tiles into the right places you build a path through the letters, and when the path reads correctly it spells the day's secret phrase.

There are two daily puzzles. Zone is solved tile by tile, working out which block belongs in each position. Halo is solved by neighbours, using how each tile fits next to the ones around it. Each mode has its own how-to-play guide on the site.

The archive goes back to the first puzzles in February 2025, with a Zone and a Halo for every day, so newcomers have plenty to catch up on.

It suits players who like hidden-phrase puzzles and spatial word games, somewhere between a word search and a sliding puzzle.

How to play Tracell

1. Choose today's Zone or Halo puzzle.
2. Look at the 2x2 letter tiles and the empty board.
3. Move tiles into positions so the letters form a continuous path.
4. Read along the path and adjust until it spells a phrase.
5. Complete the board to reveal the hidden phrase.

Tips

• Look for tiles holding common letter pairs such as TH or ING; they often sit next to each other.
• Guess the phrase early from a few letters, then place tiles to fit it.
• Try Halo after Zone; the different rule helps you see the tiles another way.
