Lettered's share card for puzzle #255, October 2, 2026: 'When You're Home Alone' under the yellow LETTERED tiles

Lettered is a daily phrase-fitting puzzle. You get a category and a tray of connected letter pieces, like small jigsaw shapes, and you drag them onto a grid until they spell the hidden phrase. Each piece fits in only one place; you are ranked on moves and time on the daily leaderboard, with a harder daily and an endless mode besides.

About Lettered

Lettered is a free web puzzle that launched in early 2026 and has put out a numbered puzzle every day since. Each day has a category, such as 'When you're home alone', and a phrase that fits it, cut up into pieces of connected letters.

You drag the pieces from a tray onto the board. A piece can be dropped anywhere, but it belongs in exactly one spot, so the puzzle is part word game and part jigsaw: the shapes of the pieces tell you how the letters run, and the category tells you what the phrase might be. Once every piece is home the phrase reads across the grid.

The score is the number of moves you needed and the time it took, which puts you on a daily leaderboard against players worldwide; streaks reward coming back each day. A separate Daily Hard puzzle with its own category is there for a tougher second round, and an endless mode keeps going after both are done.

It suits players who like Wordle-length sessions with a spatial twist: most puzzles take a couple of minutes, and the trick is to read the phrase before you finish placing it.

How to play Lettered

  1. Read the day's category; it hints at the hidden phrase.
  2. Drag a letter piece from the tray onto the grid where you think it belongs.
  3. Keep placing pieces; each one fits in only one correct spot.
  4. Finish when every piece is placed and the full phrase reads across the board.
  5. Compare your moves and time on the daily leaderboard, then try Daily Hard.

Tips

  • Guess the phrase from the category and the first few pieces; it makes the rest quick.
  • Look for pieces whose shapes only fit at the start or end of a word.
  • Fewer moves score better, so think before you drop a piece.
