Themery is a daily word puzzle built around a hidden theme. Each column is a word with its own clue, every column crosses an orange row in the middle, and that row spells a theme word linked to all the answers. You score up to 10 points, with hints costing half a point.
About Themery
Themery is a browser crossword-style puzzle with a twist: the answer that matters most is never clued. The board is a row of vertical words, each with its own clue, and all of them pass through one orange row across the middle. That row spells the theme word, and every clue-word is related to it in some way. On a day when the theme is SNAKES, for example, the down answers include SCALES, FANGS, VENOM and SLITHER.
The puzzle is the same for everyone on a given date, and finished games go on a daily leaderboard that shows your rank among that day's players. You can play as a guest or create an account to keep streaks and join groups.
You begin by picking one of the pre-set starter letter options, which drops a few letters on the board. Then you tap the top square of a column to read its clue and type the answer from top to bottom. Once you think you know the theme, you long-press the first orange cell and type it across. Six of the 10 points come from the clue-words, in proportion to how many you get, and four come from the theme word. Revealing a letter costs half a point, but every three solved clue-words earn a gem that reveals a letter for free.
The mix of ordinary clues and a hidden link makes it feel part crossword and part connections puzzle: solving a few down words points you to the theme, and the theme then helps with the rest. It suits crossword solvers who want something quicker than a full grid.
How to play Themery
- Pick one of the starter letter options to put the first letters on the board.
- Tap the top square of a column to read its clue.
- Type the answer top to bottom in that column.
- When you think you know the theme, long-press the first orange cell and type the theme word across.
- Press Done to see your score out of 10 and your place on the daily leaderboard.
Tips
- Solve the easiest clues first: the letters they put on the orange row are often enough to guess the theme.
- Once you have the theme, reread the remaining clues with it in mind, since every answer links to it.
- Save your gems for long words you are stuck on, as each paid reveal costs half a point.

Is it the same puzzle for everyone?
Yes. Each date has one puzzle, and scores for that day go on a shared leaderboard.
How is it scored?
Out of 10: six points for the clue-words, in proportion to how many you solve, and four for the theme word. Paid letter reveals cost 0.5 points each.
What are the gems?
Every three clue-words you solve earn a gem, which reveals one letter for free.
Do I need an account?
No, you can play as a guest. An account keeps your streak and lets you play in groups.
