The Daily Puzzle is built to feel like the puzzle page of an old newspaper. Its home screen is a dated masthead, THE DAILY PUZZLE with the day underneath, and below it a grid of the day's puzzles, each ticked off as you finish it, with a bonus puzzle at the end.

The mix changes, but a typical page has Triads, Circuits (a path puzzle), Honeycomb (a spelling-bee style word maker), Word Wheel, a nonogram, Perfect Fit (fit coloured pieces into a frame), Word Search and Letter Grid. The app also lists sudoku, cryptograms, Nine Letter, Tectonic, number challenges and IQ puzzles among its types, and new types are added over time. A current-streak counter sits under the masthead, and coins pay for hints.

Beyond the daily page there are more than 12,000 puzzles to play. The app is free with ads and in-app purchases, works offline and has a 4.5 rating from about 460 reviews on Google Play.

1. Open The Daily Puzzle; today's dated page is on the Puzzle tab.
2. Pick any puzzle on the page, such as the nonogram or the Word Wheel.
3. Solve it; hints cost coins if you get stuck.
4. Work through the page until every puzzle is ticked, then try the bonus puzzle.
5. Come back tomorrow to keep your streak.
