Survivle

Daily Survivle: an empty row of five letter boxes above the on-screen keyboard, ready for the first guess

Survivle flips Wordle around: the goal is to lose. You play under a strict hard mode where every revealed clue must be used, and you try to take as many guesses as possible before you are forced onto the secret word. Lasting seven guesses or more counts as a win.

About Survivle

Survivle was inspired by Wordle and by Absurdle, qntm's adversarial version. It uses a daily secret word, the same for everyone, counted from a start date in March 2022.

The twist is the goal. Normally you want the word in as few guesses as possible; here you want to avoid it. That would be easy if you could type nonsense, so the game enforces an even stricter hard mode than Wordle's: every piece of revealed information must be used in each new guess, with green letters kept in place and yellow letters included. Because tracking all of that is hard, the game tells you exactly what is wrong with a guess that breaks the rules.

You win by reaching a score of seven or more, the point at which you would have lost at Wordle. The maker notes it is harder than it sounds, with a personal record of eleven.

It suits Wordle veterans who want a contrarian daily challenge.

Besides the daily word there is a random game behind the refresh button, but only daily games count towards the stats the game keeps on your device.

How to play Survivle

  1. Enter a five-letter word as your first guess.
  2. Read the colours, as in Wordle.
  3. Make each next guess use every clue revealed so far.
  4. Try to keep guessing without hitting the secret word.
  5. Reach seven or more guesses to win.

Tips

  • Pick guesses that keep many letters unknown.
  • Avoid words that share the most likely letters with your clues.
  • Check the game's warnings before submitting.
