A completed SudokuXV from PuzzleMadness's rules, with X and V marks between squares

PuzzleMadness posts a new SudokuXV puzzle every day, the same grid for every player, at several difficulty levels. Normal sudoku rules, and two squares joined by a V add up to 5 while two joined by an X add up to 10. Finished puzzles score points on the site's monthly and all-time leaderboards.

About SudokuXV (PuzzleMadness)

SudokuXV adds Roman numerals between some neighbouring squares of a 9x9 sudoku. A V between two squares means their digits add up to 5, and an X means they add up to 10. These small sum clues stand in for many of the usual given digits.

The daily page opens today's puzzle on its own, and its title carries the date (on 3 October 2026 it read "Daily Medium SudokuXV Puzzle for Saturday 3rd October 2026 (Medium)"). There is a separate dated puzzle for each difficulty: Easy, Medium, Hard, Tough and Mixed. Past days stay in the archive, so a missed puzzle can be played later, and there is a print version and an image download of the grid. PuzzleMadness does not publish solutions: the site tells you when you have finished a grid correctly or made a mistake. Each completed puzzle adds to your total on the SudokuXV monthly and all-time leaderboards, where only your best score on any one puzzle counts.

A V allows only 1 and 4 or 2 and 3, so it rules out 5 to 9 straight away. An X allows 1+9, 2+8, 3+7 or 4+6, never 5. When one side of an X or V is known, the other is a subtraction. Mix those pairs with ordinary scanning.

PuzzleMadness is a British puzzle site with dozens of daily puzzle types in the browser, from many sudoku variants to logic grids such as Nurikabe, Hashi and Slitherlink. It is free to play and carries ads. A free account keeps track of the puzzles you have finished and puts your name on the leaderboards, and the badges next to usernames mark how many puzzles a player has completed.

How to play SudokuXV (PuzzleMadness)

  1. Open the day's SudokuXV page and choose Easy, Medium, Hard, Tough or Mixed.
  2. Fill digits so every row, column and 3x3 box holds 1 to 9 once.
  3. Make every V pair sum to 5 and every X pair sum to 10.
  4. Finish the grid and the site records your score.

Tips

  • Squares joined by a V can only hold 1, 2, 3 or 4.
  • No square on an X can be 5.
  • If two V pairs share a row, look at whether 1 and 4 or 2 and 3 are already used there.
