The Sudoku (NZ Herald) icon

The NZ Herald runs a daily sudoku on its Puzzles and games page. Each day's grids are dated and shared by every reader, and follow the classic rules: fill the 9x9 grid so that each row, column and 3x3 box holds the numbers 1 to 9 once. The page is Premium content, so an NZ Herald Premium subscription is needed.

About Sudoku (NZ Herald)

Sudoku is one of the daily puzzles on the NZ Herald's Puzzles and games page, alongside the Herald's crosswords, Code Cracker and Wordsearch. The puzzles are served in a player from Puzzle Experts, and each day's grids are dated so every reader gets the same ones.

The rules are the standard ones. Each row, each column and each 3x3 box of the 9x9 grid must contain the numbers 1 to 9 with none repeated. Some numbers are given at the start, and the rest are found by logic alone; there is no arithmetic involved.

You pick a square and enter a number, and can pencil in candidates while you work. The player includes help pages that explain how to get started and the main solving techniques.

The page is marked as Premium, so you need an NZ Herald Premium subscription to play. It suits regular sudoku solvers in New Zealand who already read the Herald.
