About Sudoku (The Sydney Morning Herald)
Sudoku is one of the Daily Puzzles of The Sydney Morning Herald and The Age, Nine's Sydney and Melbourne papers, alongside the Quick, Cryptic and Mini crosswords and Target Time. Every level has its own page for each date, for example the Expert sudoku for Saturday 3 October 2026, and you can switch between Gentle, Easy, Intermediate and Expert from any of them.
The grids follow the classic rules: fill the 9x9 board so each row, column and 3x3 box contains 1 to 9 once. Gentle is the most forgiving start; Expert needs the full set of techniques. Because each puzzle lives at a dated address, everybody who opens a level on a given date gets the same grid.
The Herald's paywall lists Daily Crosswords, Sudoku and Target Time among the features of its Premium Digital subscription, and the app advertises Daily Sudoku for Premium subscribers. Non-subscribers see a prompt to subscribe.
It suits subscribers who want a sudoku pitched exactly at their level each day, with an easy way to step up.
