Sudoking on an iPhone: a HARD 9x9 sudoku with its given digits, three red hearts for lives and a digit keypad over a pixel-art background

Sudoking is an iPhone app with one sudoku a day, the same board for every player. Three mistakes end your attempt, there is no timer on screen while you play, and when you finish you see how your time ranks against everyone else that day.

About Sudoking - Daily Sudoku

Sudoking, by Filip Sasinowski, does one thing: a daily 9x9 sudoku, the same board for everyone. There are no timers or scores on the board while you play. Instead the pixel-art background slowly changes as you make progress, and only when you finish do you see your time and where it ranks among every other player that day.

Three mistakes end your attempt, shown as three hearts above the grid, so each digit matters. Hold a digit key to pencil it in as a note; notes clear themselves as digits land on the board, and a key gets a corner tab once all nine of its digit are placed. If you leave a puzzle unfinished, you can still complete it the next day before it is replaced.

The store screenshots show a board marked HARD and, after the solve, a rank of #1 with a time of 17:22 and a countdown to the next puzzle. The app follows your phone's language, English or Polish. It needs no account and has no ads and no tracking.

How to play Sudoking - Daily Sudoku

  1. Open the app to get today's sudoku.
  2. Tap a cell and a digit to place it; hold a digit to pencil it in as a note.
  3. Fill every row, column and 3x3 box with 1 to 9, without making three mistakes.
  4. Finish the board to see your time and your rank among the day's players.
  5. Come back for the next puzzle when the countdown runs out.

Tips

  • With only three lives, pencil in candidates before placing a digit you are unsure of.
  • Watch for keys with a corner tab: that digit is finished everywhere, so you can ignore it.
  • An unfinished board can wait until the next day, so you can stop and return to a hard one.
