Strata on Mind Loft for October 3, 2026: the start card explaining that 5 words from one untold category are buried in 25 letters, that diagonals count and a wrong trace costs nothing, with the Start

Strata is a free daily word excavation game from Mind Loft. Five words from a category you are not told are buried in a 25-letter board, and every letter belongs to one of them. Trace a word to lift it out, and the letters above it fall into the gap, so the board changes after every find.

About Strata (Mind Loft)

Strata is a word puzzle on Mind Loft, a free site of daily browser games. Each day's board holds 25 letters, and every one of them belongs to one of five buried words. The five words share a category, but the game does not say what it is.

You trace a word through the letters to lift it out. When it goes, the letters above it fall down to fill the space, so the board you were reading changes completely. That is the point of the game: a word that is broken up at the start can only be read once the words in its way have been lifted out, and most of the day's words cannot be read at the start.

You tap the letters one at a time or hold and drag through them, and diagonals count. A wrong trace costs nothing, and you cannot get stuck whatever order you dig in. Working out the hidden category helps. Once two words suggest what the five have in common, the remaining ones get easier to spot among the fallen letters. The header counts how many words you have found and runs a clock. Hints are available, and they are what separates two players who both finish.

A new board goes up at midnight US Eastern Time, and Sundays bring a bigger or harder edition. It suits players of Strands or other hidden-word dailies who like a little planning on top of the search.

Tips

  • Start with words near the top; lifting them changes less of the board below.
  • Guess the category early from the first word you find.
  • Before tracing a word, picture where the letters above it will land.
  • Every letter is used once, so leftover letters tell you which words are still to come.

Questions

Does Strata tell you the category?

No. The five words share a category, but you have to work it out yourself.

What happens when you find a word in Strata?

It lifts out of the board and the letters above it fall into the space, so the board rearranges after every find.

Is Strata free?

Yes. Strata runs in the browser on mindloftdaily.com at no cost. There is no app and no account to make; entering a display name only puts your result on the daily leaderboard.

When does a new Strata come out?

Every day at midnight US Eastern Time, with the same board for every player. Sundays bring the Sunday Edition, the biggest or hardest board of the week.

Can I play old Strata boards?

Yes. Mind Loft keeps past days in its puzzle archive, together with each day's standings.
