Spot the Lie on The Hindu Games

The Hindu Games launch art for Spot the Lie: three answer bars A, B and C, two marked True and the middle one Fake under a magnifying glass

Spot the Lie is a daily trivia game from The Hindu, the Indian English-language newspaper. Each day you read three statements and choose the one that is false. It sits in The Hindu Games section beside the paper's crosswords, and it asks you to log in before it opens.

About Spot the Lie (The Hindu)

Spot the Lie is one of the games in The Hindu Games, the puzzle section of The Hindu's website, where it sits next to the paper's cryptic crossword, its easier crosswords and its word games. The Hindu announced it as a new game on 1 April 2026 with the line "3 statements. 2 truths. 1 hidden lie."

The idea is the old party game Two Truths and a Lie turned into a quiz. You are shown three statements labelled A, B and C. Two of them are true and one has been made up, and your job is to pick the made-up one. The paper promises a new challenge every day, so everyone who plays on a given day gets the same statements.

What sets it apart from a plain quiz is that you never have to produce an answer from memory. All three options are in front of you, and the work is in judging which one sounds right but is not. A fact you half remember can be enough, and a statement that seems too strange to be true is sometimes the true one.

The game opens only after you log in to a The Hindu account; the page shows a Login Required card until you do, and the site keeps a My Stats page for signed-in players. It suits readers who like a short general knowledge round with their morning paper.

How to play Spot the Lie (The Hindu)

  1. Open Spot the Lie in The Hindu Games and log in to your The Hindu account.
  2. Read the three statements, marked A, B and C.
  3. Decide which two are true and which one has been invented.
  4. Choose the statement you think is the lie to see whether you were right.
  5. Come back the next day for a new set of statements.

Tips

  • Look for the one detail that is slightly off: a wrong date, number or place often marks the lie.
  • Do not rule out a statement just because it sounds unlikely; the strangest fact is often one of the true ones.
  • If you are sure two statements are true, the third is the lie even if you know nothing about it.
