Slideways (original)

Slide stacked words sideways so their letters line up into new vertical words.

Every day: One set of words each day, the same for everyone, stacked as rows. You drag each word left or right so that letters line up in a column to spell a new word reading downward; each valid word is a point. A dated archive holds past puzzles. The site notes this original version is retiring soon. New puzzle: Once a day.

Slideways (original) puzzle: five stacked words NATURAL, FAMILY, SIMPLE, PICTURE and UNIVERSAL offset left and right, with the outlined column reading T, I, I, U, V, a Check button and Found Words 0/8

Slideways (original) is the first version of Ponder Club's daily sliding word puzzle. You get a stack of words, one per row, and drag them horizontally until a column of letters spells a new word downward. Each valid word you check counts as one point.

About Slideways (original)

Slideways (original) is the earlier version of Ponder Club's Slideways, kept on the site for now but marked as retiring soon. Each day it hands every player the same stack of words, one per row.

You drag words horizontally. As they shift, letters from different rows line up in a column, and when that column reads as a valid word from top to bottom, you tap Check to submit it and score a point. The how-to gives an example: from ACTION, BEAUTY, BELOW, PUPIL and CLEFT you could line up the A, B, O, U and T to spell ABOUT.

The game counts your words and keeps a best score, and there is a dated archive. Ponder Club says all of its games are free with no paywalls or subscriptions. The newer Slideways slides columns up and down into a highlighted row instead.

It suits players who want the original take on Slideways, or who like spotting hidden vertical words.

How to play Slideways (original)

  1. Look at the stack of words, one per row.
  2. Drag a word left or right to shift its letters.
  3. Line up one letter from each row in a column so it spells a word downward.
  4. Tap Check to submit it and score a point.
  5. Find as many vertical words as you can.

Tips

  • Pick a target word first, then find its letters in each row in order.
  • Words with common letters near their middle are easy to align.
  • Each valid word is one point, so short reliable words add up.
