SpellSlide
Slide letter tiles until every row and column spells a word, then guess the hidden letter.
Every day: A new numbered sliding letter grid each day at midnight UTC, the same for everyone, with a clue pointing to two mystery words and a hidden letter to guess. New puzzle: Midnight UTC.

SpellSlide is a free daily word puzzle built on the old 15-puzzle. You slide letter tiles through one gap until each row and column reads as a word, then name the missing letter that a one-line clue points to.
About SpellSlide
SpellSlide mixes a sliding tile puzzle with a small word square. The board is a 3x3 or 4x4 grid with one empty space: some tiles are fixed in dark colours, the light ones can be slid into the gap, and one square shows a question mark. A new numbered puzzle goes live every day at midnight UTC and is the same for every player.
A day's puzzle starts with a scrambled grid and a clue that refers to two of the words you are building at once. The example on the site, "American Idol audition?", points to STAR and VOTE. You tap tiles next to the gap to move them, working row by row and column by column until every line spells a real word.
When the letters are in place, you double-click or hold the question mark tile and guess the letter that completes both mystery words. Your score depends on how few moves you used and how many wrong letter guesses you made, and undo does not count against you. The result can be shared as a card with your move count.
Outside the daily puzzle there is an unlimited mode with random grids, a leaderboard, strategy tutorials and streak tracking, with an optional Google sign-in to keep streaks across devices. The site has no ads or paywall. It suits people who like word squares and sliding puzzles and want something more hands-on than a guessing game.
How to play SpellSlide
- Read the clue, which refers to two of the words in the grid.
- Tap a tile next to the empty space to slide it into the gap.
- Keep sliding until every row and column spells a word.
- Double-click or hold the question mark tile and type the missing letter.
- Share your move count and build your daily streak.
Tips
- Decode the clue first so you know two of the target words before you move anything.
- Finish one row or column at a time, then work around it without breaking it.
- Undo is free, so test ideas without worrying about your score.
