Scentle

The Scentle title card: A daily fragrance puzzle

Scentle is a daily guessing game for perfume lovers. The day's fragrance is shown as its notes, split into top, heart and base, and you have six guesses to name it. Extra clues such as a short bio, its country, its popularity and its house help when the notes are not enough.

About Scentle

Scentle turns the fragrance pyramid into a daily puzzle. Each day one perfume is chosen, the same for everyone, and the board lists its notes in three tiers: the top notes you smell first, the heart notes, and the base notes that last. One recent puzzle opened with cinnamon, black cherry, Sicilian lemon and nutmeg on top, cola and patchouli in the heart, and tonka bean, vanilla, benzoin and labdanum at the base, each tagged with its family such as spicy, fruity or amber.

You type the name of a fragrance as your guess. You have six guesses, and you can skip a guess to reveal the next clue instead. Besides the notes, the clue panel holds a short bio of the scent, the country it comes from, how popular it is, and finally the house that makes it.

The game is free in the browser and needs no sign-up, and a new fragrance arrives every midnight. Stats track how you do over time.

It suits people who know their perfumes by nose and by name, and anyone curious to learn how famous scents are built.

How to play Scentle

  1. Read the day's top, heart and base notes.
  2. Type the name of the fragrance you think it is.
  3. If you are wrong, use the next clue: bio, country, popularity or house.
  4. Skip a guess to reveal a clue without guessing.
  5. Name the perfume within six guesses.

Tips

  • Base notes often point to the style of a house; tonka and vanilla lean gourmand.
  • Unusual notes, like cola or a named place, are the strongest clues.
  • Save skips for when the notes alone could fit several scents.
