Read the Room's first room, Herd: question 1 of 10, 'Is breakfast for dinner a treat?', with Yes and No buttons

Read the Room is a free daily run from Mind Loft that strings four crowd games together: Herd, Outwit, Outrank and Feud. There is no answer key; each answer is scored against what the day's other players picked, so your result keeps moving until midnight Eastern as more people play.

About Read the Room

Read the Room is one of Mind Loft's daily circuits, a run of games played one after another on a single page at mindloftdaily.com. It gathers the site's four crowd psychology games, and the run takes about five minutes.

Room 1 is Herd: ten quick either-or questions, where you pick the answer you think most players chose rather than your own taste. Room 2 is Outwit, five prompts where you side with the herd, dodge it or undercut it. Room 3 is Outrank: you cast your own vote on a list, then call the order everyone else put it in. Room 4 is Feud, five prompts where you give three answers each and score when the room said the same.

There are no right answers. Each of the four rooms is worth a quarter of 100 points, paid by the share of the other players you read better than. A ladder of titles runs from Wrong Party through Wallflower, Plus-One, Life of the Party and The Host to Mind Reader at 85 and above. Because every new player re-scores the field, your points and rank shift all day until the room closes at midnight Eastern.

Each room is also a daily of its own with its own leaderboard, and a game you have already played that day counts toward the run. It is free in the browser with no app and no account; adding a name puts you on the daily leaderboard. It suits players who like survey and party games and would rather guess people than facts.

How to play Read the Room

  2. In Herd, answer ten either-or questions with the choice you think most players made.
  3. In Outwit, work through five prompts, deciding each time whether to go with the crowd, dodge it or undercut it.
  4. In Outrank, cast your own vote on the day's list, then put the list in the order you think everyone else ranked it.
  5. In Feud, give three answers to each of five prompts, aiming for the replies the room gave most.
  6. See your score out of 100 and your title on the ladder, and add a name to appear on the daily leaderboard.

Tips

  • Answer for the crowd, not for yourself: your own vote never counts toward your score.
  • Come back later in the day, since your score is re-read as more players arrive until midnight Eastern.
  • If you already played Herd, Outwit, Outrank or Feud on its own today, that result counts toward the run.
