Programmdle Puzzle #640 for Oct 2, 2026 with the How to Play card: eight clue columns and the colour key for exact, partial, no match and wrong era

Programmdle is a daily guessing game for developers. The answer is a programming language, framework, library or tool, and each guess is compared with it across eight attributes, such as category, paradigm, typing, era and origin, with colours showing exact and partial matches.

About Programmdle

Programmdle (styled pro⟨gramm⟩dle) works like the Loldle-style attribute games, but its subject is software. Each day has a numbered, dated puzzle and one hidden tech entry: a language such as Python, a framework, a library or a tool.

You type any entry the game knows, and your guess appears in a row showing eight clues compared with the answer: category, paradigm, use case, typing, era, origin, open source and platform. Teal means an exact match, orange a partial or overlapping match, grey no match, and blue a wrong era, with an arrow pointing to earlier or later. You have eight guesses, and a colourblind mode swaps teal for orange.

The game keeps statistics, and a row of dots tracks your guesses.

It suits developers and computer science students who enjoy trivia about the tools they use, and anyone who knows their Rust from their Ruby.

How to play Programmdle

  1. Open programmdle.dev and read the clue columns.
  2. Type a language, framework or tool and pick it from the list.
  3. Compare the eight attributes: teal is exact, orange partial, grey none, blue a wrong era with a direction arrow.
  4. Use the clues to narrow it down and find the answer within eight guesses.
