Pokédle

Guess the Pokémon of the day from its traits, a card, its Pokédex entry, its cry or its silhouette.

Every day: A different Pokémon each day in Classic, Card, Description, Cry and Silhouette modes, the same for every player in the chosen time zone, plus an Infinite mode for extra rounds. New puzzle: Midnight UTC+2 on the Europe setting, or midnight UTC-6 on the America setting.

Pokédle is a daily guessing game for Pokémon fans from the maker of LoLdle. Each day there is one Pokémon to find in each of five modes, from coloured attribute clues to a blurred card or its cry, and every player gets the same answers. An Infinite mode gives extra Classic rounds.

About Pokédle

Pokédle is a browser game in which you guess a Pokémon each day. It follows the format of LoLdle, the League of Legends guessing game by the same maker, Benjamin Widawski, and swaps champions for Pokémon. It is a fan project: the site states that Nintendo does not endorse or sponsor it.

A day starts in Classic mode. You type the name of any Pokémon and the game lays out its properties next to the hidden one: first and second type, habitat, colour, evolution stage, height, weight and gender. Green tiles match, orange tiles match in part, and red tiles do not, with an arrow on number columns telling you whether the answer is higher or lower. After a few wrong guesses you can open clues such as the Pokémon's ability, its Pokédex sound or a blurred card.

The other modes each hide their own Pokémon for the day. Card shows a blurred trading card from any set and sharpens the Pokémon a little with each try. Description gives a Pokédex sentence with the name blanked out. Cry plays the Pokémon's sound from the Pokédex. Silhouette shows a zoomed-in shadow that pulls back with each guess. When you are done, Infinite gives unlimited Classic rounds.

The site keeps a streak of consecutive days won and a statistics page, and you can share a summary of the day. You pick a Europe or America time zone, which decides when the new Pokémon arrive. It suits players who know the Pokédex well and want a five to ten minute daily check of that knowledge.

How to play Pokédle

  1. Open Pokédle and choose the Europe or America time zone in the settings.
  2. In Classic mode, type any Pokémon's name and submit it.
  3. Read the tiles: green is an exact match, orange is a partial match, red is no match, and arrows show whether the height, weight or evolution stage of the answer is above or below your guess.
  4. Keep guessing, using the unlocked clues if you get stuck, until you name the Pokémon.
  5. Play Card, Description, Cry and Silhouette, each with its own Pokémon for the day, then share your results.

Tips

  • Pin down the first type early: it splits the Pokédex faster than any other column.
  • Colour is often a partial match because many Pokémon have more than one dominant colour, so use orange there to rule colours in rather than out.
  • In Description mode, look for words about habitat or diet that point to a type.
  • In Silhouette mode, guess a Pokémon with a similar outline even if you are unsure: each try zooms out and shows more of the shape.
