Dotadle is a daily guessing game for Dota 2 players from the maker of LoLdle. Each of four modes has one hero to find each day, from coloured attribute clues to a quote, an ability icon or a crop of a loading screen, and everyone gets the same answers. An Infinite mode gives extra Classic rounds.

About Dotadle

Dotadle is a browser game in which you guess a hero from Valve's Dota 2 each day. It comes from Benjamin Widawski, the maker of LoLdle, and uses the same layout with Dota's heroes. It is a fan project: the site notes that Valve does not endorse or sponsor it.

In Classic mode you type any hero and see how it compares with the hidden one on gender, species, position, main attribute (Strength, Agility, Intelligence or Universal), range type, complexity as rated in the game, and release year. Positions are the roles a hero is commonly played in, based on recent pick rates. Green tiles match, orange tiles match in part, red tiles do not, and an arrow on release year points to the right year. After several guesses you can open a quote, an ability icon or a crop of a loading screen as clues.

The other three modes each have their own hero. Quote shows a line the hero says in a match, and you can play the audio once you have it right. Ability shows the icon of one of the hero's spells, with a clue that gives the spell's name. Loading Screen shows a cropped part of a loading screen, which may come from one featuring several heroes, and shows it in full after you win. Infinite gives unlimited Classic rounds.

Dotadle tracks a daily streak and statistics, and lets you choose a Europe or America time zone for the reset. It suits Dota 2 players who want a short daily test of hero knowledge outside a match.

How to play Dotadle

  1. Open Dotadle and choose the Europe or America time zone in the settings.
  2. In Classic mode, type any hero's name and submit it.
  3. Read the tiles: green is an exact match, orange is partial, red is no match, and the release year arrow points earlier or later.
  4. Keep guessing, opening the quote, ability or loading screen clue if needed, until you find the hero.
  5. Play Quote, Ability and Loading Screen, each with its own hero for the day.

Tips

  • Main attribute and range type split the hero pool fastest, so pick an opening guess that tests a common combination.
  • Position can be a partial match because many heroes are played in more than one role.
  • In Ability mode, think about the shape and colour of the icon and which heroes share that theme.
  • Classic clues unlock only after several guesses, so spend the early ones on heroes that differ widely in attribute, position and release year.
