Phrasle #1712 with a row of blank phrase tiles showing the word breaks, a 6 misses left counter, a QWERTY on-screen keyboard, and a countdown to the next phrase.

Phrasle is a daily phrase puzzle in the spirit of Hangman and Wheel of Fortune, made by a parent for children who found Wordle too hard. Guess letters to uncover the phrase; a wrong consonant costs one miss and a wrong vowel two, and how many misses you get depends on the phrase.

About Phrasle

Phrasle is a daily phrase-guessing game in the spirit of Hangman and Wheel of Fortune. Each day it hides a phrase, shown as a row of blank tiles with the gaps marking where the words break, and you reveal it by guessing one letter at a time.

You pick letters from the on-screen keyboard. A correct letter fills in every place it appears in the phrase. Guesses cost you, though: a wrong consonant costs one miss and a wrong vowel costs two, and the number of misses you are allowed depends on the phrase (the live puzzle allowed six). Run out of misses and the game ends.

There is one phrase a day, the same for everyone, numbered in sequence (the live puzzle was Phrasle #1712), and a countdown shows when the next one arrives. Earlier phrases are kept in a Past Puzzles archive. The maker says it was built by a parent for children who found Wordle too hard.

It suits families and anyone who enjoys Hangman or Wheel of Fortune, with the twist that vowels are the expensive guesses. It runs in the browser and is free, supported by ads.

How to play Phrasle

  1. Open phrasle.com to see the day's phrase as blank tiles, with the spaces showing where the words break.
  2. Guess a letter using the on-screen keyboard; every place that letter appears in the phrase is revealed.
  3. Mind the cost: a wrong consonant costs one miss, and a wrong vowel costs two.
  4. Keep your misses counter above zero while you fill in the phrase.
  5. Solve it before you run out of misses; a new phrase arrives each day, with earlier ones in Past Puzzles.

Tips

  • Lead with common consonants such as R, S, T, N and L before risking a vowel, since wrong vowels cost double.
  • Once a few letters show, read the word lengths and spacing to guess the whole phrase, then confirm with safe letters.
  • Hold vowels back until the shape of the phrase tells you which ones are likely to fit.
  • Short common words like THE, AND and OF often reveal themselves after one or two letters appear.
