A Peerkle board for the axis Sunshine hours per year: an empty eight-rung ladder from low to high above a bank of cities including Rome, Reykjavik, Cairo and Yuma, Arizona

Peerkle is a daily ranking puzzle from MinCalc. Each day names an axis, such as sunshine hours per year, and gives you eight items to arrange from low to high. After each try every slot tells you whether its item is in place, one slot off, or further out, and you have five tries to get the order right.

About Peerkle

Peerkle sets out a ladder of eight rungs, low at the top and high at the bottom, with the day's axis named above it. The items sit in a bank below: one day it might be cities ranked by sunshine hours per year, another day films by release year or animals by hours of sleep. You tap an item and then a rung to place it, and submit once all eight are in.

The feedback works like Mastermind for positions. A full dot means the item is in the right slot, a half dot means it is one slot away, and an empty dot means two or more slots away. The actual values stay hidden until the puzzle ends. Correct slots lock in place, and from the second try you swap items between slots, or clear the ladder to send every unlocked item back to the bank.

The first try draws on what you know about the items; after that the dots let you narrow the order down. A new puzzle goes live at 00:00 UTC, the archive keeps past days, and a hints page gives three spoiler-safe nudges. Peerkle is free with no account, no email and no ads, alongside MinCalc's other daily games such as Targle, Sumrex, Quackle and Toadle.

It suits players who like ranking games such as Factle or Sortem and enjoy squeezing information out of position feedback.

How to play Peerkle

  1. Read the day's axis at the top of the ladder.
  2. Tap an item in the bank, then tap a rung to place it; low is at the top, high at the bottom.
  3. Fill all eight rungs and press Submit.
  4. Read the dots: full is the right slot, half is one slot off, empty is two or more off.
  5. Swap items between unlocked slots and submit again, solving within five tries.

Tips

  • Place the items you are surest about at the two ends first; the extremes are usually easiest.
  • A half dot means the item belongs in one of only two slots, so test one of them next.
  • Use Clear ladder when several items are far out rather than swapping them one at a time.
  • Compare an empty dot against its neighbours: an item two or more off often has to cross a locked slot.

Questions

What time does Peerkle reset?

At 00:00 UTC, the same moment everywhere.

How many tries do I get?

Five. After each one every slot shows whether its item is right, one slot off, or further away.

Is Peerkle free?

Yes, with no account, no email and no ads. Past puzzles are free to play in the archive.

Do I see the actual values?

Not while you play. The feedback shows only how close each position is; the values appear when you solve it or run out of tries.
