Patchdle

Patchdle Patch #119 for Monday, October 5: a patch notes card with a 1.1.0 fix about Builder Boxes after a warp point, 1 of 6 clues revealed, and a box to search for a game

Patchdle is a daily guessing game about video game updates. Each numbered puzzle shows a line from a real game's patch notes, such as a fix to Builder Boxes after a warp point, and you have six tries to name the game. Each miss or skip reveals another patch note.

About Patchdle

Patchdle gives you something every gamer has scrolled past: patch notes. Each day's puzzle is numbered and dated (Patch #119 on Monday, October 5) and starts with one entry from a real update, labelled with its version number and type, such as a fix in version 1.1.0. You search for a game by name and guess.

There are six clues in all. A wrong guess, or the Skip button, reveals the next note from the same game's patch history, so the clues usually move from obscure fixes toward lines that give more away. The fewer notes you need, the better your result, and a stats panel tracks how you do.

A new puzzle arrives every day at 05:00 Oslo time, and every past puzzle is in the archive. Patchdle is made by Medhus, who also runs a page of other daily games, and is free with no account. It suits players who read update notes and remember which game had which bug.

How to play Patchdle

  1. Read the first patch note, with its version number and type.
  2. Search for the game you think shipped it and press Guess.
  3. If you are wrong, or press Skip, the next note from the same game is revealed.
  4. Name the game within six clues; the fewer you use, the better.

Tips

  • Look for named items, modes or mechanics in the note: they often point to a genre at once.
  • Version numbers help: a 1.1.0 fix suggests a game soon after launch.
  • Skip early only if the first note is too generic; every clue spent lowers your result.
  • Play past puzzles from the archive to get a feel for how the notes are chosen.
