Mardle is a daily Mario puzzle built like Wordle, except that each tile holds a whole word. The answer is the title of a Mario game or spin-off, and you build guesses from a keyboard of title words such as Super, Mario, Kart, Party, Land and 64. Tiles turn green, yellow or grey as in Wordle.
About Mardle
Mardle swaps letters for words. The day's answer is the title of a game from the Mario series or its spin-offs, three words long on the board, and the keyboard holds the words those titles are made of: Super, Mario, World, Land, Kart, Party, Wario, Donkey, Kong, Dr., DS, Advance, Stealth and numbers such as 64, 3 and 8.
You put together a title and press Enter. A word in the right place turns green, a word that is in the title but elsewhere turns yellow, and a word that is not in it at all turns grey. The help says to find the title in three tries, and a statistics panel shows how your guesses are spread.
The answer is picked by counting days from 1 January 2022, so everyone gets the same title on the same date, and it changes at midnight in your own time zone. Mardle is a fan-made game built on the open-source react-wordle code and plays free in the browser.
How to play Mardle
- Open Mardle and tap words on the keyboard to build a Mario game title.
- Press Enter to submit the guess.
- Read the tiles: green is the right word in the right place, yellow is in the title elsewhere, grey is not in the title.
- Use the clues to build the next title.
- Find the day's title and check your statistics.
Tips
- Open with a common pattern such as Super Mario plus a subtitle word to test the most likely words.
- Remember spin-offs: Wario, Donkey Kong and Dr. Mario titles are in the pool.
- Numbers matter: 64, 3 and DS each point to a specific console generation.
