Letterrankd puts two films side by side, shows one's average Letterboxd rating and hides the other's. You call higher or lower, and the numbered Daily Challenge gives everyone the same ten pairs. An endless Freeplay mode is there for streak hunting.

About Letterrankd

Letterrankd is a free higher or lower game built on Letterboxd ratings. Each screen splits into two film posters with the title, genre, director and year beneath; one shows its average star score, such as 3.28, and the other shows only question marks.

You press Higher or Lower. The films range from cult classics and animation to the month's new releases, and the list of recent films is refreshed from time to time. The Daily Challenge carries a number and keeps count of how many of its ten calls you get right, and it is the same set of films for every player that day.

A new challenge arrives at midnight in your own time zone. If you want more, Freeplay runs without end and tests how long a streak you can build. There is no account and, by the site's own description, no ads.

It suits Letterboxd users and anyone who has opinions about which films cinephiles rate highly, and it often catches out players whose own taste differs from the crowd's.

How to play Letterrankd

  1. Open Letterrankd and press Daily Challenge.
  2. Look at the film whose Letterboxd score is shown and the one whose score is hidden.
  3. Press Higher if you think the hidden film is rated higher, Lower if not.
  4. See the real score and move on to the next pair.
  5. Finish the day's ten calls and see how many you got right, or try Freeplay for a long streak.

Tips

  • Animation and well-known directors' work often score above the average.
  • Remember the scores are out of five, so differences of a few tenths matter.
