Filmclues
Sort sixteen film tiles into four hidden groups of four.
Every day: One new 16-tile film board a day, the same for every player: sort films, directors, actors and characters into four hidden groups of four, with four mistakes allowed. New puzzle: Midnight UTC, from the countdown in the game's code.

Filmclues is a daily Connections-style puzzle about films. Sixteen tiles of films, directors, actors and characters hide four groups of four, ranked from Easy to Expert, and you have four mistakes to find them all.
About Filmclues
Filmclues is a grouping puzzle in the style of Connections, built from cinema. Each day's board has sixteen tiles. Most are film titles, but they can also be directors, actors or characters. Four of them always share something: one past board grouped directors who have made a Star Wars film, films written by William Goldman, characters named after a weather word and actors who won an Academy Award in a Clint Eastwood film.
You select four tiles and press Submit. A right guess locks the group in its colour, which shows its difficulty from Easy to Expert; a wrong one costs one of your four mistakes. A shuffle button shows the tiles in a new order when you are stuck.
Filmclues is one of the xClues games, alongside Musiclues for music and Litclues for books, each with its own daily board. A new Filmclues puzzle arrives at midnight UTC, and the archive lists every past day with its four categories revealed.
The groups lean on facts about the people behind the films as much as on the films themselves, so it suits players who read the credits as well as watch the movie.
How to play Filmclues
- Open Filmclues and look over the sixteen tiles.
- Pick four tiles you think share a connection and press Submit.
- Use Shuffle to rearrange the board if you are stuck.
- Keep finding groups until all four are solved, before you make four mistakes.
- Visit the archive to see past boards and their categories.
Tips
- Check whether a tile is a film, a person or a character before you group it; the board mixes all three.
- The Expert group often depends on a credit, such as a writer or an award, rather than on genre.
- Leave the tiles that could fit two groups until the others are solved.
