Letter Trail on 7 Oct 2026, The Cartographer: a 4x4 letter board on a map (Y T A V, L I B I, I I E C, N C O N) with 2:15 left, 0 words and Clear and Mark Word buttons

Letter Trail is the timed word hunt in Clue Morning's daily set. Everyone gets the same sixteen letters each day, and you have two and a half minutes to trace words through tiles that touch across, down or diagonally. Short words add up fast, while longer words are worth more.

About Letter Trail (Clue Morning)

Letter Trail is the third of seven daily games on Clue Morning, a small free site whose morning set also includes Letter Grid, Four Groups, Triple Link, Word Steps, Deep Cut and Last Call. It plays like Boggle: a 4x4 grid of letters and a clock.

You press Start Trail, then tap or drag from tile to tile to spell a word. Each step must move to a touching tile, horizontally, vertically or diagonally, and no tile can be used twice in the same word. Any valid English word of three letters or more counts. On 7 Oct 2026 the board read YTAV, LIBI, IIEC and NCON, a vowel-heavy grid with room for long words such as those ending in -ION.

The page is dressed as a cartographer's desk, and the prompt asks you to trace a route across the map. A counter tracks words found, score, time left and your best word. When the 2:30 run ends, the game records your words and can show the longest word the board held.

The board changes at midnight Pacific time with the rest of the daily set, and words are checked on Clue Morning's server, so everyone faces the same letters even though each player finds a different list. Your score feeds the Morning Run total, streak and daily leaderboard. The daily set is free in the browser with no account; a paid Unlimited pass adds extra boards outside the daily game.

How to play Letter Trail (Clue Morning)

  1. Open Letter Trail on Clue Morning and press Start Trail; the 2:30 clock begins.
  2. Tap or drag from a letter to a touching letter, across, down or diagonally, to spell a word.
  3. Use each tile only once per word, and make words of at least three letters.
  4. Submit each word; valid ones add to your word count and score.
  5. Keep finding words until time runs out, then compare with the longest word on the board.

Tips

  • Sweep the board for quick three and four letter words first so the opening seconds score.
  • Look for endings such as -ING, -ED, -ER and -S, and add them to words you have already found.
  • When you stall, start from a tile you have not used yet; a new corner often shows fresh routes.
  • Spot a vowel cluster early, since most long words run through it.
