Karat
Turn the rings of a golden ingot until every face spells a four-letter word.
Every day: One numbered puzzle a day, served the same to every player: a golden ingot of four letter rings to turn until every face spells a word, in 24 turns at most, scored against the fewest turns possible. New puzzle: Every 24 hours.

Karat is a daily word puzzle built on a turning golden ingot. Its four rings carry letters on every facet, and you rotate them until each face of the ingot reads as a word, using as few of your 24 turns as you can.
About Karat
Karat looks like a small combination lock in gold. The ingot is made of four rings, one for each letter of a word, and each ring has letters on all six of its facets. Turned the right way, every facet of the ingot spells a real word reading across the rings. Your job is to find that arrangement.
The game has two modes of touch. LOOK lets you rotate the whole ingot to read each facet without spending anything; TURN rotates a single ring, and each turn counts. You have 24 turns, any word form is accepted, and the result screen tells you how far you were from the fewest possible turns, with a star for a perfect solve. A new Karat comes each day, numbered and the same for everyone, and Practice Mode offers extra puzzles in between.
Karat is made by Auro and wraps its instructions in a playful story about 17th century alchemists and a philosopher's stone. It suits players who like spatial puzzles as much as vocabulary: you need to hold the whole ingot in your head to save turns.
How to play Karat
- Select LOOK and drag up or down on the ingot to read each facet; looking is free.
- Select TURN and drag up or down on one ring to rotate it; each turn counts.
- Turn the rings until the letters on every facet of the ingot spell a word.
- Solve within 24 turns, aiming for the fewest possible.
- Share your result, or try Practice Mode for more puzzles.
Tips
- Look all the way round the ingot before your first turn: planning is free, turning is not.
- Find one ring whose letters only fit one position, and turn the others relative to it.
- Rarer letters like Q, X or Z narrow down which facet they can belong to.
Questions
How many turns do you get in Karat?
24. Looking at the ingot from different sides does not count as a turn.
Is Karat the same for everyone?
Yes, each day's Karat is numbered and the same for all players, which is what the share text compares.
Can I play more than one Karat a day?
Yes, Practice Mode has extra puzzles; the daily one is the numbered puzzle.
