Kalimat (كلمات, words) is the Arabic version of Wordle made by the pan-Arab newspaper Al-Araby Al-Jadeed. Each day there is one five-letter Arabic word to find in at most six guesses. Tiles turn green for a right letter in the right place, yellow for a letter in the word but elsewhere, and grey for a letter that is not there.

About Kalimat (كلمات, Al-Araby Al-Jadeed)

Al-Araby Al-Jadeed, the London-based Arabic daily, launched Kalimat in spring 2022, after the success of the English Wordle. The paper presented it in a video as an Arabic version of the famous game, and invites readers to test their vocabulary, find the hidden word every day and share it with friends.

The rules follow Wordle. You type a five-letter Arabic word, right to left, using an on-screen Arabic keyboard. Each guess has to be in the game's word list. After you submit, each letter is coloured: green if it is correct and in the right place, yellow if it is in the word but in a different place, and grey if it is not in the word at all. Letters can repeat. You have six guesses, and there is only one word to find each day.

The keyboard includes the hamza forms and other letters of the Arabic alphabet, and keeps track of which letters you have used. The game is free on the paper's website.

How to play Kalimat (كلمات, Al-Araby Al-Jadeed)
