Guess the Yu-Gi-Oh Card #137: a golden winged dragon's artwork beside four locked hints, guess boxes 1 to 5, a Skip button and a card search box

Guess the Yu-Gi-Oh Card shows the artwork of one Yu-Gi-Oh card each day, cut out of its frame with no name or text. You have five guesses, picked from a searchable list of cards. Each wrong guess or skip unlocks a hint: the card type, the set it was first printed in, its Cardmarket price and finally its rules text.

About Guess the Yu-Gi-Oh Card

Guess the Yu-Gi-Oh Card, also called Guess the YGO Card, is a browser game for people who know the Yu-Gi-Oh trading card game. Every day it shows the artwork of one card on its own, without the name, frame or text, and asks you to name it. The card is numbered, it is the same for every player that day, and a new one goes up at midnight UTC.

You type into a search box and pick the card from the list it offers, so a spelling slip never costs a try. You get five guesses. A wrong guess, or a press of the Skip button, unlocks the next of four hints beside the art: whether it is a monster, spell or trap card and of which kind, the set it was first printed in, its price on Cardmarket, and last its full rules text.

The cards range from Duel Monsters classics such as Dark Magician, Kuriboh and Blue-Eyes White Dragon to later Synchro, Xyz and Link monsters, hand traps and staple spells. When the round ends the whole card is shown with a short description, and you can copy a row of coloured squares to share your result: green for the right guess, red for a wrong one and black for a skip.

Every past puzzle stays playable from an archive, with arrows under the board to step back to earlier cards, and a list of past answers that never includes the day's card. A stats panel and a sound effects setting sit in the header. The site is free to play with no account and carries Google ads.

Tips

  • Work out the era of the art first: painted early Duel Monsters art looks very different from the glowing Link-era style.
  • A cheap Cardmarket price often points at an old common that many players own, a high one at a modern staple.
  • Skipping costs a guess just like a wrong answer, so only skip when you have no name in mind at all.
  • Some art was edited for the western release, so a figure that looks oddly bare or empty-handed may be a well-known card.
