Guess the Magic Card #819 for Oct 5, 2026: a three by three grid with one blurred art tile open, the guess slots below and a card search box with Skip and Submit

Guess the Magic Card is a daily art quiz for Magic: The Gathering players. Each numbered puzzle hides a card's illustration under a three by three grid; you see one tile at first, and every wrong or skipped guess opens another until you name the card.

About Guess the Magic Card

Guess the Magic Card has run since 2024, when its early puzzles were numbered in the eighties; by 5 October 2026 it had reached #819. Each puzzle is one card's artwork, cut into nine tiles in a three by three grid.

The day starts with a single tile showing, often a blurred patch of sky or a figure's outline. You search a card name and submit it, or press Skip to reveal another tile. Every wrong or skipped answer opens one more tile in a set order, so you have at most nine guesses, and the list under the grid records them in order. When you get it, or run out of tiles, the whole art is shown with a link to the card on Scryfall.

A countdown in the header shows how long until the next card, and an arrow steps back to earlier numbered puzzles. The stats show your current and longest streak and how many guesses your wins took, and the result can be shared.

It suits players who know cards by their illustrations as much as by their names; long-time players and collectors will recognise more from a single tile.

How to play Guess the Magic Card

  1. Open guessthemagiccard.com to get the day's numbered card.
  2. Look at the one open tile of the art.
  3. Search for a card name and press Submit, or press Skip to reveal another tile.
  4. Each wrong or skipped answer opens one more of the nine tiles.
  5. Name the card before the art is fully shown, then share your result.

Tips

  • Read the palette of the first tile: it often points to the card's colour.
  • A skip costs the same as a wrong guess, so guess whenever you have a real candidate.
  • The art style of a tile can date the card to a set era before you can see what it shows.
