Floe daily #200, puzzle 1 of 3: a penguin on an ice grid with rocks and three fish, par 4

Floe is a daily ice-sliding puzzle. Your penguin slides in a straight line until a rock or the edge stops it, and you need to collect every fish on the floe in as few slides as possible. There are three new puzzles a day, each with a par that is the true minimum.

About Floe (Yuki Games)

Floe sits on a small grid of ice with rocks scattered across it and a few fish to collect. Pick a direction and the penguin slides until something stops it; it collects a fish by passing over it or stopping on it. Because you cannot stop where you like, every move is a commitment, and the rocks become the tools you use to land in the right place.

Each daily puzzle has a par, the minimum number of slides found by a solver, so matching par means your solution cannot be beaten. Undo takes back a slide and reset restarts, with no penalty beyond the slide count. The three daily puzzles are the same for every player on the same calendar day; solving all three keeps your streak, and the share string gives your result without spoilers.

An archive replays any past day's puzzles exactly as they were, and a practice mode serves unlimited random puzzles. It is free, has no ads and needs no account. Floe is part of the same small family of browser games as Ballast, Bearing and Well Putt. It suits fans of classic ice-sliding puzzles from adventure games.

How to play Floe (Yuki Games)

  1. Pick a direction with the arrow keys, WASD, a swipe or a tap on that side of the board.
  2. The penguin slides until it hits a rock or the edge.
  3. Collect a fish by sliding over it or stopping on it.
  4. Collect every fish in as few slides as you can; aim for par.
  5. Solve all three daily puzzles to keep your streak, then share your result.

Tips

  • Think about where you will stop, not what you will pass through.
  • Use rocks as brakes: the right rock is usually the way to reach an awkward fish.
  • Collect fish in a different order if one seems unreachable.
  • Par is proven minimal, so if you are over par there is a shorter route to find.
