Coastle

Guess the day's roller coaster from its stats.

Every day: One roller coaster a day, the same for everyone, guessed in six turns from its country, manufacturer, seating type, inversions, height, length and speed. An endless mode gives random coasters after the daily. New puzzle: Midnight UTC.

Coastle is a Wordle-style guessing game about roller coasters. You name any coaster, and the table tells you whether its country, manufacturer and seating type match the day's answer and whether its height, length, speed and inversions are higher or lower. You have six turns.

About Coastle

Coastle takes the guess-and-compare format of games like Poeltl and applies it to roller coasters. Each day there is one mystery coaster, picked from a list its maker chose by hand. You type the name of any coaster, choose it from the list of coasters and parks, and the game lays out its stats in a row next to the answer's.

Each row has seven columns: country, manufacturer, seating type, number of inversions, height, length and top speed. A tile shows whether that value matches the answer, does not match, or whether the answer is higher or lower. After your third turn you can reveal the first letter of the coaster's name, and after your fifth the name of its park. You have six turns in all. The stats come from Captain Coaster's database, and the page warns that a few coasters have missing values.

The daily changes at midnight UTC. Once it is done you can copy your result, check charts of your daily and endless records, or switch to Endless mode for random coasters, with a Harder Endless option in the settings and a metric units switch. It suits theme park fans who know their Intamin from their B&M and like a numbers puzzle more than a picture one.

How to play Coastle

  1. Type the name of any roller coaster into the search box and pick the coaster and park you mean.
  2. Read the row of tiles: a match, a miss, or an arrow showing the answer is higher or lower for inversions, height, length and speed.
  3. Use the matches on country, manufacturer and seating type to narrow down the field.
  4. After turn three, open the hint for the coaster's first letter; after turn five, the hint for its park.
  5. Find the coaster within six turns, then copy your result or switch to Endless mode.

Tips

  • Open with a well known coaster from a big manufacturer; a manufacturer match cuts the field quickly.
  • Height, length and speed usually move together, so one big record coaster can tell you a lot about all three.
  • Seating type separates inverted, flying, wing and sit-down coasters early; pay attention to it before the numbers.
  • Turn on metric units in the settings if you think in metres and km/h.
