Between (Tages-Anzeiger)
Find the hidden word that sits alphabetically between two others, in ten guesses.
Every day: One German word a day hidden alphabetically between two boundary words; ten guesses, each one tightening the bounds. New puzzle: Once a day.

Between is a daily German word game in the Tages-Anzeiger's games section, built by Puzzlr. You see two words, and the answer lies alphabetically between them. Every guess you make becomes a new boundary, either above or below the answer, so the gap keeps shrinking. You have ten guesses. The Tages-Anzeiger's line for it: find the target word between two terms.
About Between (Tages-Anzeiger)
Between plays like a dictionary hunt. The game shows a lower boundary word and an upper one, and today's word sits alphabetically somewhere between them. It also tells you how many letters the word has.
You type a guess. It has to be a real word from the game's list and has to fall between the current boundaries; if it does not, the game says so. If your guess comes after the hidden word in the alphabet, it replaces the upper boundary. If it comes before, it replaces the lower one. Either way the gap shrinks, and the game's tutorial points out that a wrong guess is not wasted: it becomes the new edge. A hint lights up keys to follow when you are close.
You have ten guesses. The fewer guesses you need, the better the verdict at the end, and you can share your result. If you run out, the game tells you better luck next time and to come back tomorrow. A new puzzle is published every day. Between runs on the Tages-Anzeiger alongside Mosaik, Wortsuche, Pinpoint, Bimaru, Flow, Sudoku, the Kreuzworträtsel and the Newsquiz, and its sister papers carry it too.
How to play Between (Tages-Anzeiger)
- Read the two boundary words and the length of today's word.
- Guess a German word that falls alphabetically between them.
- Your guess becomes the new upper or lower boundary, depending on which side of the answer it lies.
- Narrow the gap until you find the word, within ten guesses.
Tips
- Guess near the middle of the gap, the way you would search a dictionary.
- Pay attention to the second and third letters once the first letter is fixed.
- Use the word length to rule out guesses that are alphabetically right but too long or short.
Questions
How many guesses do I get in Between?
Ten.
